With the sixth floor museum in the background, Teresa Guerrero, who was eight years old when JFK died, left, her mother Maria Ortiz, whose birthday is that of the assassination, right, and Jose Ortiz, rear, reflect during a moment of silence to commemorate the JFK assassination at Dealey Plaza on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 in Dallas. Teresa and Maria were living in Acuna, Mexico when JFK died but remember learning of his death from neighbors and the radio reports that followed. "It seemed like the world stopped," Guerrero said. "Even in Mexico... everyone was crying. Now every year, we celebrate our mother, but we remember what happened to JFK." (Patrick T. Fallon/The Dallas Morning News)

Denise Williams places balloons to mark the grave of Kina Williams, 24, and her 2-year-old daughter, Karmen as friends and family gathered on the one year anniversary of the drunk driving accident that caused their death on November 20, 2011 at Laurel Land Cemetery in Dallas. Didn’t go to bed till about 6am this morning. A tip from my editor Guy brought me back to the Occupy Dallas campsite. Speaking with the protesters there – they had no idea that an eviction was going to take place that night. Everyone on site thought they’d have at least 24 hours to prepare their exit, but soon enough police and horses arrived to proceed with the eviction after an opportunity to pack up and go home.

A man who gave his name only as Doug stands in front of a line of Dallas Police on horseback as Occupy Dallas was evicted early Thursday morning from their campsite across from Dallas City Hall by Dallas Police on horseback and in riot gear on Nov. 17, 2011. Protesters were given repeated messages to leave the premises and were told they would be allowed to return to collect their property if they left voluntarily. A handful of protesters decided to stay behind and were arrested. (Patrick T. Fallon/The Dallas Morning News)

Worked on this project back in August, have finally had the time to sit down and work on an edit of it. I’m not sure if three months is really enough time to show the difference and change that has taken place, but I plan to shoot this again after a few more months to a year has passed. Still can’t believe how there is almost nothing left in places that were filled with debris… Inspired by the blog, “Dear Photograph.”

Spent 24 hours camped out with Occupy Dallas, shot stills as well as video for the story. Still trying to be careful about balancing my time when shooting both – since I’m less experienced with video, I think I shoot a bit too much at times with that and not enough with the still images.

Protester Anthony Estrada, of Garland, eats a candy bar his mother packed him for halloween while watching a video on his smart phone he charged off a string of Christmas lights above his tent while camped out with Occupy Dallas across from City Hall on early Friday morning, November 4, 2011 in Dallas. I’m extremely lucky to be working with such an awesome staff here at The Dallas Morning News – the support from my editors and the photograpghers to go out and make the most of this World Series is great. Chances are I won’t have the opportunity to cover one again… or at least for many many years.
